Newark or Wilmington, you can see documentary gems such as Werner Herzog’s “Cave of Forgotten Dreams” and Richard Press’ “Bill Cunningham New York” about the famous fashion photographer, and “Saint of 9/11,” which tells of Father Mychal Judge, the only priest to die in the terrorist attacks. There are plenty of indies, foreign and limited-release flicks, so you’ll find something to suit your taste. New this year: OUTflix for those interested in LGBT issues. What happens when a group of at-risk youth follow the governor for a day? Find out when “Reel Talk” premiers at the World Cafe Live at The Queen on Sept. 14. The short documentary is the fruit of efforts by participants in Jewish Family Services’ Youth Development program, who spent the day with Gov. Jack Markell. The Queen event features “Reel Talk,” as well as public service videos produced by the kids and the performance of an original rap song. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $75. Call 478-9411, or visit jfsdelaware.org.

Reflecting on Pyle

A year full of celebrations and reflections on the centenary of illustrator Howard Pyle’s death begins Sept. 17, when the Brandywine River Museum opens “Inspiring Minds: Howard Pyle as Teacher,” which shows how the seminal artist shaped luminaries such as Jessie Willcox Smith, Thornton Oakley, Frank Schoonover and N.C Wyeth through examples of their class assignments and their later works, with period photographs. This is a rare insight into one of the area’s greatest teachers in any discipline. See it before it ends Nov. 17.
