Puppets Hit the Boards

Catch “The Foocy” at the Delaware Theatre Company. The play runs through May 16.

“The Foocy,” billed as a puppet comedy, is obviously a departure from normal DTC fare. But there’s still plenty of theatrical merit, and a few good lessons about good and evil. Artistic director Anne Marie Cammarato has taken a bit of a gamble by introducing this rather unorthodox show to audiences that love the classics. But few can argue that young people need to enjoy professional theater, too. And this one’s for them. DTC staffers suggest “The Foocy” for audiences ages 10 and up.

The play by Anthony Lawton features Philadelphia artists Matt Pfeiffer and Aaron Cromie—both well-known to Delaware audiences. Using masks and music, the actors interpret a tale about a witch who travels the Russian countryside, lands in the village of Vrinsk, and runs into all sorts of adventures.
