“The Business of Illustrated Calendars” at the Brandywine River Museum Jan. 25-May 18

Some of the best work from N.C. Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, Howard Pyle and Maxfield Parish can be found in advertisements.

Howard Pyle, Maxfield Parrish, Norman Rockwell and N C. Wyeth are known foremost as book illustrators, but they created some of their best-known images for advertising calendars. See some of them in “The Business of Illustrated Calendars” at the Brandywine River Museum Jan. 25-May 18. At the same time, “N.C. Wyeth’s America in the Making” is a rare opportunity to see works on loan from the collection of the Brunnier Art Museum of Iowa State University. The paintings depict great events in U.S. history, all created especially for calendars, too. Make it a date. (610-388-2700, brandywinemuseum.org)
