Dubbed the most exclusive event to be held, Diner en Blanc—a pop-up chic dining experience for guests—made its way to Wilmington last year. The event drew over 1,000 people, which was held August 17 in Tubman Garrett Park. The craziest part? The guests do not know where the event will be until they arrive at the location, to which they must bring their own tables, chairs and table settings. Everything must be white, including clothing (the only exception is the flowers).

It sounds like a lot of work, but host Kim Beecher insists that event goes off without a hitch. “The whole evening is so well-maintained. And it’s sexy as hell,” she says.
Diner en Blanc is held in 90 cities across 30 countries and began 31 years ago in Paris, France. Participants arrive at a designated departure point with their table, chairs and picnic materials, and then make their way to the secret location with their table leader by chartered bus or organized public transportation. They take all of their belongings with them at the end of the night, including leftovers and trash.
The 2019 waiting list has over 3,000 people on it, all anxiously waiting to find out the date of this year’s event. The wait is almost over, promises Beecher. She and the other two hosts of the event, Michael and Sherell Flagg, are hosting a Save the Date Party on June 9 at DE.CO from 5-8 p.m.
Tickets for Diner en Blanc are $45 each if you need transportation, and $43 for a pedestrian ticket.
