Stepping onto the grounds of The Inn at Montchanin Village & Spa in Wilmington is a bit like wandering through a painting of historic Delaware. This 20-acre property boasts a picturesque labyrinth of gardens, inviting guests to meander through charming cottages and Tuscan-style structures dating back to the 18th century.

“This inn is historic in every way—the homes, the architecture and the gardens,” says Randy Howat, vice president of Inns of Distinction. “What makes it special for guests is its unique story.”

More than two centuries ago, Montchanin Village housed employees of the original DuPont gunpowder mill. Today, the inn successfully blends its deep history with chic modern amenities. Guests enjoy secluded rooms—many of which include fireplaces and private gardens—and also have access to a small, state-of-the-art spa. Whether dining at the inn’s restaurant, Krazy Kat’s, or exploring the surrounding Brandywine Valley, a stay at Montchanin is sure to be memorable.
