The Music School of Delaware celebrates its 85th anniversary with a concert at The Grand June 3. This is no ordinary show, but then again, the music school is the only statewide, accredited community music school in the country. Performers, ranging in age from 6 to 90, will represent the school’s Suzuki Academy as well as its choral and orchestral programs, including the Wilmington Youth Chorale, Delaware Children’s Chorus, Select Choral Ensemble, Delaware Youth Orchestra, Delaware Youth Symphony, Wilmington Community Orchestra and Delaware Women’s Chorus. The evening also will feature informal performances in the Baby Grand. The Delaware Art Museum opens “Fifty Works for the First State: The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection” June 19. The Vogels, who collected 4,000 works, mandated that 50 works go to an institution in each state. The Delaware Art Museum scored drawings, paintings, sculptures and collages by 23 artists. The exhibit showcases post-minimal, figurative and expressionist work, and “holds the works of art in public trust for the appreciation of all,” says assistant curator Margaret Winslow. “In Delaware this gift strengthens the museum’s ability to tell the story of contemporary American art.” For more, call 571-9590, or visit delart.org. —Maria Hess

Let’s clear things up. “Urinetown The Musical” is not about the seemingly obvious. The plot does, however, involve septic systems. Performed by the Delaware All-State Theatre at DuPont Theatre June 18-27, “Urinetown” is the story of a sooty city after a 20-year drought. Its government has put a ban on private toilets, forcing citizens to use public amenities. The facilities aren’t so wonderful, which prompts a rapacious character to cash in on the urgent needs of the people. “Urinetown” won three Tony Awards. The All-State cast is comprised of 50 student performers from 20 Delaware schools. Can teens pull off this mature theme?
