Delaware Authors’ Day is a day to celebrate and support local authors, encourage others to write and publish, and hear about some of the work that is done to put together publications of all types. Sponsored by the Delaware Heritage Commission, with the Lewes Historical Society, more than 30 authors will gather at Lewes Presbyterian Church Nov. 1 to talk about their works. Speakers will address various topics, including how to put together edited journals, working with culture and translations, photography books and promoting a published work. Speakers include Connie Cooper, editor of Delaware History; Midge Yearley, editor of Lewes History; Linda Blaskey, editor of the Broadkill Review; noted photographer Kevin Fleming; University of Delaware faculty members Asima F.X. Saad Maura and Monica Dominguez Torres; well-known Delaware author Nancy Lynch; attorney and author J. Everett Moore of Georgetown and Lewes-area newspaper publisher Dennis Forney. Keynote speakers are Billie Travalini, native Delawarean and editor of “On The Mason-Dixon Line: An Anthology of Contemporary Delaware Writers,” and Delaware Poet Laureate Joann Balingit. “We are particularly proud to host Authors’ Day this year in Lewes and Sussex County for the first time,” says Dick Carter, chair of the Delaware Heritage Commission. “Our rich history and the dynamic population of this area will provide lively discussions and an opportunity for people from all over Delaware to share ideas and learn from each other.” Admission is free and open to all.
