WDEL and WSTW, Best of Delaware Winners, Tune In to Their Listeners

Both stations make a conscious effort each day to establish a sense of community on the air.

One of the biggest strengths of radio stations WDEL and WSTW? They listen to those listening in.

In this year’s Best of Delaware contest, WDEL won awards again for Best Radio Station for News, Best Radio Station for Sports and Best Radio Talk Show Host. WSTW held onto its crown for Best Radio Station for Music

“We work hard year-round,” says Nathalie Antonov, the promotions director for WDEL and WSTW. “We’re always honored to get recognition and have an opportunity to showcase what we do.”

Both stations make a conscious effort each day to establish a sense of community on the air. WSTW does a lot of research to figure out what their listeners want. The station strives to be present in and give back to the community by organizing contests and concerts, attending community events and hosting back-to-school drives.

Contest winners are also pulled locally, since the shows are not syndicated and the winner pool doesn’t reach all over the country, Antonov says.

WDEL has “covered a lot in the last year that were firsts,” says Antonov, citing Obama’s visit to Delaware. She says the station has a strong team of reporters who are always ready to be on call when something happens.

Antonov says Rick Jensen and Susan Monday, who both won Best Radio Talk Show Host, are hardworking individuals who are constantly creating content.

Antonov says the radio stations are looking forward to the Best of Delaware party. “It’s always fun and gives the stations the opportunity to interact one on one with their listeners by handing out prizes, and to talk to those tuning in,” she says.
