On June 2, 2009, The Music School of Delaware held its first ever Showcase at The Grand Opera House in Wilmington. The concert featured joint, individual and side-by-side performances by the school’s eight large ensembles: Suzuki Academy, Delaware Youth Orchestra, Delaware Youth Symphony, Wilmington Community Orchestra, Wilmington Youth Chorale, Delaware Children’s Chorus, Select Choral Ensemble and Delaware Women’s Chorus. This one-of-a-kind concert placed more than 250 performers ages 6 to 90 “center stage” at The Grand and drew ticket sales of nearly 1,200. We were honored to have Governor Jack Markell, along with several other community leaders and artists including Tina Betz, Director of Cultural Affairs for the City of Wilmington; David Bromberg, Grammy-nominated guitarist; and David Amado, Music Director for The Delaware Symphony Orchestra, attend the concert and address the crowd reinforcing the vital role arts and arts education play in our community and state.
