This award is presented annually to the ABC contractor member who exemplifies the true meaning of the Merit Shop philosophy and has contributed most to the success of the association. This year’s winner is John Gooden of M. Davis & Sons. John is a strong supporter of ABC. M. Davis & Sons was a founding member of ABC Delaware in 1981. John has always supported ABC’s efforts to protect free enterprise and open competition in Delaware. John served on the ABC Delaware Board of Directors for six years and as ABC Delaware Chair in 2012. He was also a member of the ABC National Board of Directors from 2010-12.
John is a past chair of the ABC Careers in Construction committee and was instrumental in the formation of the annual ABC student awards program, which recognizes a student enrolled in the construction trade curriculum who has shown outstanding academic achievement and completed a successful co-op program with an ABC member. John was also the driving force behind the reformation of the Construction Education Foundation, an ABC subsidiary that offers annual scholarships to students who are going on to post-secondary programs in construction-related fields. John is also a member of the ABC Legislative/Legal Rights Committee. He has been a strong supporter of and contributor to ABC’s local and national Political Action Committees, which help elect pro-merit shop legislators. John is an individual who truly embodies the spirit of ABC and is well deserving of this award.
