Merit Award Winners
ABC Delaware is pleased to recognize members for their contributions to the industry. Following are the Excellence in Construction Awards Program Merit Award winners:

Wohlsen Construction
For the Christiana Care Health System – 2D ICU project, Wohlsen receives a Merit in the GC/CM $2-5M category. Wohlsen Construction and Wilmont Sanz Architects teamed to renovate a 13,833 sq. ft. existing inpatient unit to construct a new Nero-ICU suite on the second floor of the busy, occupied hospital.

Bancroft Construction
Bancroft Construction is presented with a Merit in the GC/CM $5-10M category for the Claymont Library. The new, 17,500 SF Claymont Library includes the latest in features, such as a drive-up book drop off, computer work stations, dividable meeting rooms, and a pergola with outdoor seating.

Nickle Electrical Companies
For the Howard High School of Technology, Nickle Electrical Companies is awarded a Merit in the Electrical $2-10M category. The Nickle team ran more than 12 miles of conduit and more than 77 miles of wire throughout the 190,000-square-foot project. A 350-kilowatt natural gas generator was also installed.

Wohlsen Construction
Wohlsen Construction is presented with a Merit in the GC/CM $50M & over category for the Unionville High School project. Wohlsen Construction provided general contracting services for this multi-phased project that consisted of 180,000 sq. ft. of additions and 150,000 sq. ft. of renovations to the busy, occupied high school.

Bancroft Construction
A Merit award in the category of GC/CM under $2M is presented to Bancroft Construction for the Sheridan Nissan Pre-Owned Vehicle Retail Facility in New Castle. The project included the construction of a new, 8,000 sq. ft. building that features a sales floor, a car wash, and four garage bays.

BPGS
For the Penn Cinema project, BPGS is awarded a Merit in the GC/CM $10-20M category. The Penn Cinema project consisted of the redevelopment of a 5.0-acre parcel for a new 15 Theatre IMAX movie complex located at the Riverfront in Wilmington.

EDiS
In the GC/CM $20-40M category a Merit is presented to EDiS for the Dover Public Library. The 46,424 square foot library presented unique challenges to the project team due to the complexity of the materials utilized in the design. This project is seeking LEED Silver Certification.

|
Transit Electric
Transit Electric is awarded a Merit in the electrical under $2M category for the University of Delaware Materials Management Facility. This was an existing facility which was 90 percent removed to make room for a new, state-of-the-art, controlled material facility. The project was completed within six months with no safety incidences.

GG+A Construction
In the GC/CM under $2M category, a Merit is presented to GG+A Construction for the Comfort Inn in Rehoboth. GG+A’s project consisted of exterior envelope modifications as well as lobby, guest room and breakfast dining room renovations. The team worked in an occupied hotel and completed all work in only four months.

Nason Construction
In the GC/CM $20-40M category, Nason Construction is awarded a Merit for the University of Delaware Carpenter Fitness Center. The renovation included moving campus utilities and parking lots to house a new indoor jogging track, fitness center, and lobby in addition to the pre-existing structure.

Nason Construction
For the Kent County Courthouse renovation, Nason is presented with a Merit in the GC/CM $10-20M category. Kent County Courthouse’s renovation took an 1886 courthouse and transformed it to now include seven new courtrooms, prisoner containment, passages, judges’ chambers, security systems, and new mechanical systems.

The Tri-M Group
In the Electrical under $2M category, The Tri-M Group is awarded a Merit for the Bloom Energy Red Lion substation. The Tri-M Group, LLC constructed, from the ground up, this completely operational 138kV substation from a 34.5kV substation in roughly three months.

GG+A Construction
GG+A Construction is presented a Merit in the GC/CM $2-5M category for Milford Plaza. The highly intense project involved the renovation and construction of an occupied shopping center. GG+A removed and reconstructed the shopping center façade and constructed a 10,000 sq. ft. expansion.

Custom Iron Shop
In the specialty-steel category, Custom Iron Shop is awarded a Merit for the Bear Public Library. Custom Iron Shop overcame the challenges related to fabricating and erecting the decorative support metal on this project. The result was an attractive support system for the decorative plastic panels that are suspended from the roof above.

RC Fabricators
The new tech facility at the Seaford High School is one of the most challenging projects completed by R. C. Fabricators. The bipod was completely shop fabricated, galvanized and then set on elevated concrete piers. A roof girder was then cantilevered over assembly so the balance of framing could be installed.

Nason Construction
In the GC/CM $5-10M category, Nason construction is awarded a Merit for Stroud Water Research Center. A nationally recognized, award-winning, LEED Platinum project, Stroud was designed by M2 Architecture and includes geothermal fields, water purification research facilities, and a compostable septic system.
