Associated Builders and Contractors Delaware’s Excellence in Construction Award Winners

ABC Delaware members showcase their work each year in the Excellence in Construction Awards Program, which honors the best of the best in the construction industry. Here are this year’s winners.

ABC Delaware members showcase their work each year in the Excellence in Construction Awards Program, which honors the best of the best in the construction industry. Here are this year’s winners.

Ehret Construction
In the GC/CM $10-20M category, an Excellence is presented to Ehret Construction for Brandywine Senior Living. Brandywine Senior Living is a gorgeous, 102-unit Assisted Living Facility with residential units including studios; deluxe studios; and 1 and 2 bedroom units.  This was Ehret’s fourth project for Brandywine.

Eastern Industrial Services
An Excellence is presented to Eastern Industrial Services in the Specialty coatings category for Croda. Eastern Industrial Services provided one stop shopping for Croda’s Tank Farm expansion.  EISI’s multicraft mechanics delivered cost effective insulation, scaffolding and coatings services working over 30,000 hours with no incidents, injuries or illnesses.

Wohlsen Construction
An Excellence is presented to Wohlsen Construction in the GC/CM $10-20M category for the Jennersville Regional Hospital – Patient Room Addition & Renovations. Wohlsen Construction provided preconstruction and construction management services for a new one-story, 13,000 square foot patient addition and 24,000 sq. ft. of renovations throughout a busy occupied hospital while it continued to operate at full capacity.

Nickle Electrical Companies
In the Electrical under $2M category the Excellence is presented to Nickle Electrical Companies for Hosting.com. Nickle’s scope of work included a fit-out and renovation for a third data center with a 4,000-amp service. Conduit was run to the six existing 500-kilowatt generators and two 500kVA UPS systems were installed for backup services.=

Bancroft Construction
In the GC/CM category of $20-40M, Bancroft Construction is awarded an Excellence. Christiana Care’s brand-new, 36,500 square foot Middletown Emergency Department provides emergency medical services 24/7 and encompasses 13 individual patient rooms outfitted with the same equipment as a hospital emergency room.

KBR Building Group
In the GC/CM $50M & over, KBR is awarded an Excellence for the DuPont Building 735. KBR Building Group delivered DuPont Building 735, an energy efficient, flexible office building designed to support approximately 800 employees, within budget and in accordance with multiple turnover dates to meet DuPont’s needs. 

EDiS
In the GC/CM $5-10M category, EDiS is awarded an Excellence for the Bear Public Library. EDiS and the project team renovated a 25,000 square foot library and were able to briefly open the facility for the 2012-polling season without affecting the project’s schedule or budget.

Spacecon
Spacecon is awarded and Excellence in the specialty-carpentry category for the University of Delaware Interdisciplinary Science Building. Spacecon was a proud team member in the construction of this state of the art research and teaching laboratory. Spacecon’s success was with the partnering between Whiting-Turner and the other construction trades; creating a quality and safe facility.

DiSabatino Construction
In the GC/CM $2-5M category, DiSabatino is awarded an excellence for the Hercules Atrium Renovation. This was a challenging project, creating a new main lobby floor in the center of a fully operational, downtown office building which transformed and modernized the atrium’s look and functionality.

EDiS
An Excellence is presented to EDiS in the GC/CM under $2 M category for the Padua Academy Library project. EDiS overcame challenges with this 11,300 square foot library renovation related to unforeseen conditions and infill work that kept the project on target for an eight-week completion.

Worth & Company
In the mechanical category $2-10M Worth & Company is presented with an Excellence for the DuPont Building 735. Worth & Company Inc. performed the installation of HVAC and plumbing systems for DuPont’s new four-story office building. Worth’s team successfully overcame several challenges: stringent timeframe, weather and installing rooftop units. 

Tri-M Group
An Excellence is presented to the Tri-M Group in the electrical $2-10M category for DuPont Building 735. All electrical systems including high voltage distribution, interior and exterior lighting, ultra-advanced building automation systems, telecommunications and fire alarms were provided by Tri-M for DuPont’s state-of-the-art office building.

Service Unlimited
In the mechanical under $2M, Service Unlimited is awarded an Excellence for the Natural Dairy Products project. Service Unlimited was contracted to install multiple HVAC and custom air distribution systems to convert an existing 23,000+ square foot warehouse into a new milk processing plant for Natural Dairy Products organic grass-fed dairy products.

County Insulation Company
An Excellence is presented to County Insulation Company in the specialty-coatings category for the Croda project. Following years of exposure to harsh climate and environs of a chemical plant, Croda turned to CIC for a design solution to apply a new high performance coating to the aging rack system.

Tri-State The Roofers
In the specialty-roofing category, an Excellence is presented to Tri-State The Roofers for the University of Delaware Interdisciplinary Science Building. The unique and innovative design of the ISEB facility for scientific studies and research was a bold accomplishment that Tri-State was honored to work on for the University of Delaware.

RC Fabricators
Claymont Library project. This project presented a complex design with multiple pitches, miters and radiuses. The use of steel allowed designers the flexibility needed to accommodate both the roof geometry and elliptical supports.  

George & Lynch
George & Lynch is presented with an Excellence for the Indian River Inlet Bridge in the site/civil $10M & over category. This $12 million project included construction of the new Indian River Inlet Bridge Roadway Approaches including storm water management, MSE walls, sand bypass, and the challenging demolition of the existing bridge.
