To complete the look, brides are adding dramatic black sashes to white gowns. Overall, there is a more pulled-together, comprehensive look to the bridal party, with the bride and her maids wearing frocks with the same hemline, with or without similar necklines.

“The attendants’ dresses are more fashionable and the look is more cohesive,” Cawley says. “Gone are the days where the bridesmaids wore terrible dresses.”

Gals are gravitating toward two hemlines—either just above the knee or floor-length. Chiffon is still a top fabric choice.

“Tea length is awkward for petites, so girls are getting away from it,” Cawley says. “And miniskirts work only for girls who are very young and very slender.”
