Brother Ronald Giannone, founder, The Ministry of Caring

He always tells me what a great job I’m doing, so I always tell him, “There are those of us who just follow around and pick up your crumbs.” We first met about 30 years ago. He came here with nothing but a frock, a pair of sandals, a big smile and a well used New York accent, and he was literally feeding the poor. But he quickly became the man no one could say no to. I’ll never forget him addressing a group at the Hotel du Pont, and him saying, “I want to thank you all for being here, and I want to thank Charlie Cawley for that $1 million donation.” Cawley stood up and said, “I never promised you $1 million, but I guess I’ll give it to you.” He was just bigger than life. Through his Ministry of Caring he has built numerous sites to help the poor. He has built an organization that has affected tens of thousands of Delawareans. He raised the bar, and he has inspired others to raise the bar. I love the guy.
