Celebrate the First Annual National Bakery Day

Cannon’s Bakery in Newark will be providing free samples and hosting an éclair-eating contest on Thursday, Sept. 28. (Plus, our staffers share which sweets they crave most.)

If you haven’t heard of National Bakery Day, don’t sweat it—that’s because Thursday, Sept. 28, is its inaugural celebration. Cannon’s Bakery in Newark will commemorate the event with free samples, sales, demonstrations and an all-around celebration of desserts. The celebration begins at 7 a.m. and doesn’t end until 8 p.m.

Cannon’s will also be holding a one-pound éclair-eating contest, beginning at 6 p.m. Contestants have just 10 minutes to finish the pastry for a chance to win prizes and be crowned the éclair champion for the year. Call Cannon’s to sign up—only a limited number of participants are allowed.
