Targets: Frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles
Procedure: The products are made with Botulinum toxin, which is injected into the site. Few patients require numbing. “We just use ice,” says Sharon Dellose, a nurse with Dr. Christopher Saunders, who has offices in Wilmington, Newark and Chadds Ford. Which brand to choose? Xeomin doesn’t require refrigeration, which appeals to some practices. Just don’t be fooled by price comparisons. Dysport is less per unit than Botox, but it’s packaged at a lower strength. So it takes more units to do the same job. Dr. Kelly King, a physician with The Med Spa & Salon in Lewes, believes Dysport can last longer than Botox—but then so could a negative reaction. Botox frequently offers price incentives.
Time: Usually 20 minutes or less.
Recovery: You may have redness or some bruising. It will take a day to several days before you totally lose that furrowed brow. Results can last from three to six months; it varies with the individual.
