A public safety focused high school preparing students for college and career chartered by the State Board of Education (delawareacademycharter.org)
Providing academic and career skills for students bound for college as well as careers in public safety, DAPSS partners with more than 60 agencies, including police, fire, security, cybercrimes and emergency response groups to guide curriculum development and school practices.
The staff of educators and seasoned career first responders, many with dual certifications in education and their area of expertise, set a tone of fidelity, service to the community, consistency and safety.
“There is a unity of purpose among our teaching staff, and the cadets get it,” says head of school Charles Hughes.
Donning the uniform is a daily reminder of that, he says.
“Everyone is part of a brotherhood that ties us together. I hear the cadets say, ‘we are not like other schools, there are no cliques here.’” Students also get a portfolio of skill sets and certifications that differentiate them from peers seeking to enter a growing field that includes high-tech cyber work, homeland security, administration and first responder work.
Did you know: Freshmen are certified in CPR and automatic defibrillator use, and cadets can earn certificates in Emergency Medical Response and first level Fire Response.
