Explorer Mornings for ages 3-10 and 10-14, mostly in July, examine themes such as nature and animals. Fall, winter and spring bring Read Aloud tours, with a story, a brief tour of relevant images in the museum and a related art activity. Special this year, the museum is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the N.C. Wyeth-illustrated “Treasure Island” through Pirate Adventure Day on Nov. 6. “We want to introduce and expose children to images and museums in a positive and educational way,” says associate educator Jane Flitner. “Studies show that children exposed to art frequent museums as adults, so this is their early start. Any time you teach children how to look closely, you teach skills you can adapt to science and math and reading.” Private group tours can be arranged for adults.
