Delaware Beach Dining: Family Restaurants Like Romeo’s Café and Family Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach and Warren’s Family Restaurant in Fenwick Island

A Family Affair

The new: If you’re craving breakfast at 11 p.m., 2 p.m.—or even 2 a.m.—then head to Romeo’s Café & Family Restaurant (30 Wilmington Ave., Rehoboth Beach, 227-9090), where breakfast is served 24 hours a day.

Don’t get so enamored of the homemade creamed chipped beef that you miss the crab cakes. “They are the best in town,” maintains owner Romeo Cekmecelioglu. “They’re my own recipe and made with lump crabmeat. Whoever has one comes back for more.” And at $19.99 for two cakes, it may be the best price in town.

The tried-and-true: In 1970, Warren D. Johnson, owner of Warren’s Family Restaurant, called employees Jeff and Paula Mumford on their honeymoon and told them to come get the restaurant. He wanted to retire. The Mumford family, which took over in 1971, is now in its second generation of ownership at the renamed Warren’s Station (1406 Coastal Hwy., Fenwick Island, 539-7156, warrensstation.com). Staple menu items include the 6-ounce crab “cutlet” and the turkey salad. In fact, gobble up anything with turkey in the title. Johnson was a turkey farmer, and it remains a star attraction.
