Even when the sun is broiling you can get in the mood at Christmas Spirit in Rehoboth Beach. Popular holiday collectible lines include Willow Tree figurines, Byers’ Choice carolers and Possible Dreams figurines.
Beachcombers will appreciate ornaments with a seaside theme. “We have just about everything imaginable, from crabs to seashells,” says manager Jill Hudson.
This year, the shop started selling Blue Crab Bay products, including peanuts, dips and mixes. Stock up for hostess gifts. One item, however, is not for sale. A Grinch mask, fleshed out with a stuffed Santa suit, is just for show. “So many people want to buy him,” Hudson says. You’ll just have to settle for a photo taken with your smart phone. (227-6872)
Mod Cottage in Rehoboth Beach starts dressing the store for Christmas as early as October. “People come for the jazz festival and love to holiday shop,” says co-owner Brad Holsinger. Expect shell garlands, shell ornaments and other nautical but still holiday decor. “We figure people get the regular holiday decor anywhere.”
While you’re there, pick up the Corkcicle, a plastic “icicle” filled with freeze gel. Pour a glass of wine and insert the crafty Corkcicle into the bottle to keep the wine cool. “With a bottle of wine, it’s the perfect hostess gift,” Holsinger says. (227-7277, modcottage.net)
