Delaware Cosmetic Surgery: Peels

Light chemical peels of alpha hydroxyl acids or beta hydroxyl acids are available at salons and spas. They remove dead cells on the surface to brighten skin. Stronger peels of trichloroacetic acid remove deeper layers of skin to stimulate growth of new collagen and tissue. The result can be healthier looking skin, improved texture and tone, and removal of fine lines. Regardless of strength, several peels may be needed to achieve the best results.

Risks Low, but they increase with deeper peels.

Recovery With light peels, a stinging or burning sensation fades soon after treatment. There is zero to minimal downtime. Full healing takes over a week. Deeper peels require seven to 10 days to “peel.” Additional dryness of the skin, redness, and healing can be necessary.

Cost $75 to $1,500, depending on the depth of the peel
