Delaware Cosmetic Surgery: Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy removes spider veins and small varicose veins by injecting a salty or soapy chemical solution into the blood vessel. During healing, the vein closes (called sclerosis). The procedure stings a bit, but because very small needles are used, the pain is inconsequential for most and usually doesn’t require anesthesia. Larger veins may need to be treated with a laser or radio-frequency device, or they may require surgical removal.

Risks Risks are low overall. Some people may get pigmentation, “staining” of the skin, or the development of more veins. Total removal of all veins should not be expected. Burning from lasers or radio-frequency treatments is low.

Recovery Some doctors recommend compression stockings afterward. Recovery is very easy.

Cost The procedure is usually priced by syringe and the amount of time it takes to perform the treatment. The price usually runs from $100 to $500 per session. More than one treatment should be expected.
