Delaware Restaurant and Dining Guide

Plus, local foodies tell us where they like to dine.

Bon Appetit in Seaford serves traditional French dishes in an atmosphere graced by lace curtains, candles and fresh flowers.

Matt Amis
Delaware Today dining critic • Wilmington

Amis digs the breezy sophistication of La Fia, Bryan Sikora’s bistro-bakery-gourmet shop hybrid on Wilmington’s Market Street, where homemade, French-inspired goodies like country pâté and gougère pastries bolster an amazing seasonal menu. For more culinary gymnastics, Amis heads to The House of William & Merry in Hockessin, a foodie funland where chef Bill Hoffman fuses artisanal ingredients and modernist technique. Still, he says, “I’ve never had a less-than-excellent meal at Harry’s Savoy Grill in North Wilmington, whether it’s old-school prime rib or some haute spin on octopus carpaccio.”

Gwen Guerke
Former community journalist • Milford

One of Guerke’s favorite local spots is Sambo’s Tavern in Leipsic. She enjoys the laid-back atmosphere while eating the famous crab cakes and gazing at the winding Leipsic River. Guerke also loves Flavor of India in the Super 8 Motel in Dover. She enjoys the friendly service, the lunch buffet and the fresh Indian fare. Guerke likens Abbott’s Grill in Milford to Cheers because she always sees someone she knows and the staff sincerely cares about the community.

Chip Hearn
Retired restaurateur, hot sauce manufacturer, foodie, •  Dewey Beach

- Partner Content -

Hearn can’t resist the exotic grilled cheese sandwiches at Morgan & Gower Cheesemongers in Rehoboth Beach. His favorite: the Red, White and Bleu with smoked blue cheese and figs. At Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, also in Rehoboth, it’s the Indulgence Burger. This wood-charred wonder includes Wisconsin yellow cheddar and a bacon-stuffed onion ring. Chase it with non-alcoholic Beach Beer Soda. Hearn hits Striper Bites in Lewes for the SB Club— blackened Mahi Mahi served on ciabatta with lettuce, tomato, smoked applewood bacon and Caesar dressing.
