Delaware Today magazine Arts & Entertainment Feature: Community theater, Second Street Players in Milford

All the World’s on Second Street

Milford’s Second Street Players cover practically every genre, including musicals, drama, comedy, original works and the Children’s Dessert Theatre.

Software developer Steven Haber, star of shows like “Barefoot in the Park” and “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” relocated to Rehoboth Beach from Washington, D.C. He was welcomed instantly into the theater family.

“We did ‘Barefoot in the Park’ in the midst of last summer’s heat wave,” he says. “We were supposed to come onstage from outside, where, in the play, it’s snowing, but we entered with beads of sweat on our foreheads. Now that’s acting.”

Why does Haber do community theater? “Well, at first, honestly, it was for my ego,” he says. “I loved being on stage, making people laugh and smile. But now, it’s the connections with people and the whole collaborative creative process. There’s nothing like it.”
