With Delaware moving toward an economy based on small business, Jayne Armstrong’s role as district director of the U.S. Small Business Administration is perhaps more important than ever. Armstrong has overseen capably all SBA operations in Delaware since late 1999, when the state split from Philadelphia to become its own district. Working to help entrepreneurs become successful has earned her the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneurial Advocate of the Year Award, the National Association of Women Business Owners’ Bridge Builder Award, and recognition as a Great Federal Employee on the floor of the U.S. Senate. Looking ahead, she says, “It is important that we create an economic development infrastructure that supports small business. In the next decade we will need to take a serious look at the gaps we have in small business loan funds, incentives, economic development policies and more throughout the state if we expect to move Delaware forward.”
