Even Philadelphia magazine has recognized Peter Kate, naming it the best place for women to dress head to toe—though the shop is in Greenville. That’s saying something. Last month, mother-daughter owners Kathy Savage (left) and Sissy Dent Harris celebrated 10 years in business—also no small feat. “After my second child, Peter, was born in 2001, I knew I wanted to go back to work, but not in a corporate environment,” Harris says. “My mom has a background in high-end women’s fashion, and we felt there was a need for a shoe and accessories store at the time. We started planning in July 2001 and opened in November 2001. We began the old-fashioned way, with a small loan from the bank. We worked without pay in the beginning and managed every aspect of the business. Today I look back and see our growth, and know that hard work pays off—but so does working with your mom.” New: The Peter Kate Web site, which the pair is committed to improving.
