Katie Freer loves kids. Katie Freer loves to cook. It was only natural that she would find a way to combine her background in early childhood-elementary education with her passion for food. As founder and lead educator for Sprouting Chefs in Lewes, she teaches language, literacy, math and science in private classes by leading kids on forays to the Lewes Farmers Market, teaching them about food and agriculture, then cooking according to a recipe. “I give children an understanding of where the foods that they eat come from, how fruits and vegetables are grown, and the nutritional benefits of eating healthy,” Freer says. Her dream: to start a community garden for adults and children.
