Ever wondered where the people who make their living in the golf industry would like to play or what they would like to accomplish before they head for that final fairway in the sky? Here’s what’s on their list:
Play Augusta and Bandon Dunes.
—James Pepple, president, Wyncote Golf Club, Oxford, Pa.
Go to the Masters and play Augusta, but more importantly go to St Andrew’s and play golf. Pebble Beach is on my list as well.
—Ryan Kidwell, director of golf, White Clay Creek Country Club, Wilmington, Del.
Play the old course at St. Andrew’s.
—Jeff Kiddie, head professional, Aronimink, Newtown Square, Pa.
Have a hole-in-one. Never had one.
—Eric Shillinger, head professional, Moselem Springs, Fleetwood, Pa.
Play Augusta National. Since that is a shot in the dark I would really enjoy playing some of the wonderful courses in the Northeast. Short list: Merion, Pine Valley, and Winged Foot, to name a few.
—Justin Meyers, general manager, Applecross Country Club, Downingtown, Pa.
Qualify for the U.S. Open.
—Dave McNabb, head professional, Applebrook Country Club, Malvern, Pa.
(Editor’s note: Dave came close to checking this one off his list in 2005, missing by just two strokes at a U.S. Open sectional qualifier, despite a 28-hole, bogey-free run to close out his play. He also has Augusta and Cypress Point on his list, just in case.)
Love to play Pine Valley, Merion, Pinehurst 2, Whistling Straits. Augusta, of course.
—Tony Hollerback, head professional, Baywood Greens, Long Neck, Del.
My bucket list of golf includes so many things still. But the biggest one is to play golf on the true links of Scotland and Ireland. Obviously St. Andrew’s heads that list, but I would love to take a two- or three-week trip and play all the great ones.
—Andy Watters, head professional, Inniscrone, Avondale, Pa.
Cypress Point.
—Rick Rounsaville, director of golf, Bulle Rock Golf Course, Havre de Grace, Md.
Bandon Dunes.
—Dan Shupard, pro shop manager/vocational instructor, Golf Course at Glen Mills, Glen Mills, Pa.
