Deerfield, Delaware’s premier public golf, wedding and special events venue, partnered with Delaware Today Magazine in search of Delaware’s Best Amateur Chef. We found her!
After gathering hundreds of nominations, in January, 12 finalists submitted an original recipe ranging from Tofu creations to Surf ‘n Turf. After review, six remaining finalists were chosen to prepare his or her dish for Deerfield’s own Chef Paul O’Toole CEC/AAC and a select panel of judges. Of the six dishes, our panel of judges chose the top three.
On March 25th, Kathleen Matty, Marcy O’Neill- Davidson, and Rick Perles created a new selection live at Deerfield’s Sunday Brunch. All rounds were judged in four categories – Creativity, Flavor, Execution and Presentation.
Based on the scores in what was a very tight race, Deerfield and Delaware Today are proud to announce Delaware’s Best Amateur Chef
Kathleen prepared a scrumptious Seared Ahi Tuna and Quail Egg on Warm Napa Cabbage Salad.
Marcy followed in close second with a delectable Garlic and Rosemary Colorado Lamb Chops with Fruited CousCous and Shaved Brussesl Sprout Sautee.
Rick finished in third with his Grilled Pork Shoulder Steak, asparagus tips, corn salad, colossal lump crab and basil mayonnaise accent, and mashed potatoes with melted cheese.
Kathleen has received a $5,000 Prize Package courtesy of Deerfield and Delaware Today. The central item in the Prize Package is a Cocktail Party at Deerfield for about 75 of her closest friends and relatives where Kathleen’s creations will be featured. The entire menu will be crafted and inspired by her submissions as well as many of Deerfield’s most popular selections.
