Home, Community and Ambulatory Care

Evelyn R. Hayes, Ph.D., MPH, FNP-BC. University of Delaware

The most important aspect of my role is twofold: collaborating with patients and families to both promote their health and that of the community, and mentoring students. Leadership and advocacy skills are two essential qualities. Community-based nursing practice seeks to promote healthy lifestyles while decreasing high-risk behaviors. My greatest reward has been seeing  the positive effects of empowering individuals to make healthy lifestyle choices. Community nursing will rapidly evolve as society develops appreciation of benefits gained through nurses who practice with a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to health care delivery.
