Wohlsen Construction
In GC/CM $5-10 million, Wohlsen Construction is honored with an Excellence for the Mears Medical Office Building. Wohlsen was hired by Nanticoke Health Services to complete the new, two-story medical office building in Seaford. Designed by Becker Morgan Group Inc., the 33,000-square-foot building connects two existing buildings, creating one large and convenient facility.
Nickle Electrical Companies
Nickle Electrical Companies is presented an Excellence in the electrical under $2 million category for SevOne. Nickle electricians were charged with installing a new 2,500-amp electrical service, new lighting controls, branch circuits, floor boxes, tele/data, fire alarms, television monitors and supports, and control points with the State of Delaware’s Department of Technology and Information.
GGA Construction
GGA Construction is awarded an Excellence in the GC/CM under $2 million category for Brew HaHa! Café in Greenville. The café boasts a custom-built server with reclaimed wood, banquette seating, library casework and outdoor deck for dining. Close coordination of equipment installation was required for the commercial kitchen and bar. A design-build delivery system was key to the project schedule.
Nowland Associates
In the GC/CM $2-5 million category, Nowland Associates is presented with Excellence for the BuDe Winery Production Building. Chateau BuDe Winery selected Nowland to design and build its new state-of-the-art wine processing facility in Chesapeake City, Md. This one-of-a-kind facility was fast-tracked to be ready to open for the winery’s first harvest.
GFP Cement
In the specialty trade category concrete/masonry, GFP Cement is awarded an Excellence for the Crozer Ambulatory Care Center. Linac Vaults are specialized concrete structures which have specific density requirements as determined by a project physicist to house the operations of radiation oncology. GFP Cement Contractors’ commitment to quality, performance and safety led this project to a successful completion.
County Insulation
County Insulation is awarded an Excellence in the specialty trade insulation category for the MDavis and Phillips 66 Hydrogen Recovery Unit. The overall concept of skid mounted process units such as this project is a shop fabricated process that allows for units to be constructed in a climate-controlled warehouse, which greatly increases the safety and overall quality of the workmanship.
Wayman Fire Protection
Wayman Fire Protection is awarded an Excellence for the specialty trade category fire sprinkler/alarm systems at Sugar House Casino. To ensure code compliance, Wayman installed three layers of protection in the same vertical space—at the roof, under mechanicals and below ceilings. This unique project involved constant teamwork to get the job completed safely and on schedule.
Wohlsen Construction
In the GC/CM $2-5 million category, Wohlsen Construction is presented an Excellence for The Rockford Center Children’s Addition. Universal Health Services selected the team of Wohlsen Construction and Array Architects to provide integrated project delivery services for a 15,000-square-foot addition to the children’s facility at the Rockford Center in Newark.
The Tri-M Group
The Tri-M Group is awarded an Excellence in the electrical $2-10 million category for Guardian Life Insurance. Tri-M’s scope of work included branch power, electrical distribution equipment, lighting, lighting control, fire alarm, security, AV raceways and telecommunications for the new 281,680-square-foot, state-of-the-art building for The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America.
RC Fabricators
In the specialty trade category of steel fabrication/erection under $2 million, RC Fabricators is awarded an Excellence for the Johns Hopkins University San Martin Drive Pedestrian Bridge. From estimating through erection, JHU’s San Martin Drive Pedestrian Bridge was a challenge. Designated Forest Conservation Easement with equipment restrictions, brutal topography and Mother Nature proved no match to the determination, innovation and skill of RC Fab’s team.
Ralph G. Degli Obizzi & Sons
Ralph G. Degli Obizzi & Sons is presented with an Excellence in the mechanical $2-10 million category for The Summit Assisted Living Facility. The mechanical work consisted of the largest variable refrigerant flow system in Delaware at the time, along with rooftop energy recovery units, delivering over 12,000CFM of air. The refrigerant pipe for the entire building totaled over 26,000 lineal feet and the entire system provided over 450 tons of air conditioning.
Bancroft Construction
Bancroft Construction is honored with an Excellence for the Northern Resource Center in GC/CM $5-10 million. The Northern Region headquarters for the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay was constructed on seven acres on Old Baltimore Pike in Newark. The 17,000-square-foot service center is built to serve 16,000 girls and adult volunteers.
Corrado Construction
Corrado Construction is presented an Excellence for the University of Delaware’s South Academy Residence Hall Utility project. The project consisted of upgrading the campus steam and chilled water system in order to provide steam utilities to the future site of a university residence hall. The project also consisted of upgrading the steam/condensate and chilled water to several other older buildings.
Service Unlimited
Service Unlimited is awarded an Excellence in under $2 million mechanical contractor category for McGrory Glass Plant AC and dehumidification. Service Unlimited’s 2 project Carrier 60-ton humidimizer systems with Carrier i-Vu web-based BACnet control system and duct sox air distribution to provide temperature and humidity control for McGrory’s 80,000-square-foot glass manufacturing facility.
GGA Construction
In the GC/CM $5-10 million category, GGA Construction is awarded an Excellence for 58 E. Main St. Plaza. This four-story mixed-use project consists of first floor retail and covered parking and three stories of student apartments. In order to open before the academic school year, a design-build delivery system was used to accelerate the construction schedule.
BPGS Construction
In the GC/CM $2-5 million category, BPGS Construction is awarded an Excellence for the Philadelphia Union soccer team’s training facility. The project was a renovation/restoration of a 16,000-square-foot existing structure. Constructed in the 1930s, it was an annex to the Delaware County Electric Company. The structure sat abandoned for over 50 years before being converted into a world-class training facility for MSL’s Philadelphia Union.
