In 1912 Louisa d’Andelot duPont Copeland held a meeting in her living room that resulted in the founding of the Delaware Art Museum. Mrs. Copeland served as the long-time president of the institution, and after her death in 1926, her son Lammot duPont Copeland took the helm. Now a third generation of Copelands is continuing this family tradition of arts leadership in Delaware: Gerret Copeland and his wife, Tatiana, are passionate and committed advocates of the state’s arts organizations. Their unparalleled support of the Delaware Art Museum, Delaware Symphony Orchestra, The Grand Opera House and OperaDelaware have united these and other arts organizations. The Copelands’ vision for the arts in Delaware has successfully spurred a new spirit of collaboration, and their efforts continue to raise public awareness for the importance of the arts in Delaware. Gerret and Tatiana know that a wonderful community deserves a vibrant culture, and their willingness to contribute time, energy, and capital has helped to keep our arts alive.
