There are few bigger cheerleaders for the state than WJBR morning jock Michael Waite, who returned to the airwaves in January after a seven-year hiatus that followed almost 18 years as one of the most popular personalities on local radio. He couldn’t be happier to be back, and neither could we. As the morning guy, with cohost Jessie Micchelli, he signs off at 9, which gives him more time for life than most working people enjoy. How would he spend it best? This way:
3:30 a.m.
Wake up at home in North Wilmington. Eat a bowl a cereal. Brew coffee for the car ride to the station.
4 a.m.
Check the headlines and the news on Channel 10.
4:15 a.m.
Shower.
5:30 a.m.
Sign on. Have fun with Jessie doing things like playing the Match Game or Purse Game with listeners. Spin some tunes. Boost local causes like voting for Google Doodle candidate Catherine Skibicki of Cab Calloway School of the Arts.
9 a.m.
Do a little post-show review with Jessie, maybe at a Brew Haha!
10 a.m.
Head home. Walk Bichon Frise Malo around the neighborhood.
11 a.m.
Start a round on nine holes at Deerfield. Grab lunch in the pub. “The food is great there. Even if it’s just a hot dog, it’s a really good dog.”
2 p.m.
Head home. Scan the news. Surf the net. Prep for the next day’s show. Answer email. Take a 20- to 30-minute nap.
4:30 p.m.
Happy hour with wife Kathy at Firebirds, Bonefish Grill or Bella Coast, all on Concord Pike. “I’ve got them all.” Then meet the kids and grandies for ice cream at Sweet Lucy’s or Sweet Nel’s.
8:30 p.m.
Go to bed and think good thoughts. “I love what I do. People could listen to anything they want, and they choose us. So anything we can do to spread some positivity, we’ll do it. Let’s have some fun and make a difference in the community. That’s my job, and I’m stickin’ to it.”
