As she was graduating college with a newly minted marketing degree in 1991, Jennifer G.M. Zerby’s fiancé and his family were opening the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel and Victoria’s Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach. “They needed someone to handle the marketing,” says Zerby of Lewes. “It was a natural fit.” Now an icon in the resort, the Boardwalk Plaza empire also includes The Point Coffee House and Bake Shoppe. Zerby handles all aspects of public relations and marketing, from the design of print advertising and writing of radio ads to printing menus and running social media, as well as overseeing corporate philanthropy. As a new appointee to the Governor’s Tourism Advisory Board, she’s looking forward to working in tourism on the government level. She’s also plotting a major renovation of the hotel, “but that could take years,” she jokes.
