Education and Mentorship
Marianne Foard, MS, BSN, RN. Bayhealth Medical Center
As president of the Delaware Organization of Nurse Executives/Leaders, I believe we need to make every effort to coach, educate and mentor. We need to practice with purpose, passion and perseverance and be the change agent necessary for our profession. A nurse leader who serves as a mentor and educator has the knowledge to change lives. We must create significance in the work we do and realize that not everyone can be a nurse. We must be in the profession for the right reason, which is to serve patients and our communities and represent our profession appropriately. We will be faced again with a national nursing shortage, with 1.2 million more nurses needed by 2020. We need to achieve the federal support in creating future nurse leaders by generating more opportunities and raise our standard of entry into practice.
