The lives of patients with chronic diseases can become very complicated, especially when navigating the health care system. I strive to help them make sense of their needs and make care accessible. The most rewarding aspect of my work has been what I learn from the patients. I work with very sick people who, regardless of what life has handed them, have a positive, can-do attitude. Sometimes when I feel like I am having a bad day, I care for someone who has a terrible illness who is so positive, it makes me think, How can I ever have a bad day, when there are so many others who have real reason to complain, but do not? I have learned such an attitude of gratitude from my work.
