Nurse Practitioner | Geriatrics/Adult
Mary “Terry” Sybrant, NP-C. Shorecare of Delaware and Correct Care Solutions at the Department of Corrections
The important aspect of geriatric nursing is anticipating and meeting the needs of the frail geriatric population. I see my future in these clients and treat them as I hope to be treated. It takes skill to talk about what they are going through, answer their questions, and let them know what they can expect with their disease process. These skills are also helpful when involving the patients and their families in important topics such as end-of-life decisions or ongoing care treatments. It is rewarding to hear comments such as “I’m so glad I’m seeing you,” or, “I know you will listen to me.” In clients with dementia, just the smile that lights up their faces when I see them lets me know that I am making a difference to them on some level.
