It was all about sending the summer out in style in early September with Meals on Wheels Delaware’s annual Denim & Diamonds bash. The weather was a massive party foul, sending Meg Nichols, director of events, into a bit of a tailspin as she and her crew had to work crazy overtime to bring the outdoor tented party inside the Delaware Agricultural Museum. For what it’s worth, I was a fan of the space. As Nichols eyed the unintentional decor cautiously—airplanes hanging from the ceiling, tractors, and random farm equipment—I thought it lent a cool, farm chic vibe to the party.
Boot-cut, skinnies, dark wash, light wash—jeans were obviously the on-trend fashion choice of the evening, but these sure weren’t your grandmom’s dungarees. Dressed up with sparkly, colorful tops for the ladies and blazers and rich-hued ties bursting with fall flavor for the guys, this was denim with pizzazz. And, of course, this was at the Ag Museum, so a tip of the ol’ Stetson to all the cowboy and cowgirl inspired fashion. (I’m talking to you, Joe Parks.)
No trip to Kent County is complete without a run-in with the Dover Fab Four: Tonda and that cowboy, Joe Parks, with cohorts Ed and Ann Dulin. I haven’t hung with this crew in awhile. Tonda Park’s leopard heels (paired with a va-va-voom tiered silk champagne number) cut figure eights around the place that night as the Heart Ball crusader shared a laugh with almost everyone. Ann Dulin kept it fresh and contemporary with black and white stripes. This pretty blonde is no jail bird, though. She was more like the life of the party.
I spied proud-as-a-peacock Lynne Schaefer working the room, passing out business cards for the Dover Federal Credit Union. The vice president of business services was looking sleek and svelte in black. I must say gorgeous couple Evelyn and Drew Brady upped the style quotient. Clearly Evelyn Brady had been paying attention to the fall runways—her slick leather leggings and elegant sea foam green camisole were the perfect mesh of rock ’n’ roll and romance. To add to the gorgeous couple tally, I was loving Chris and Jen Cohan. Tonight, they showcased understated style at its best. And when (OK, if) I get the guts to finally have my “Roman Holiday” moment, Audrey’s brunette pixie is so very out. Jen, your platinum, punk rock look is an absolute 2012 do.
