Merit Award Winners

ABC Delaware is pleased to recognize members for their contributions to the industry. Following are the Excellence in Construction Awards Program Merit Award winners:

Assurance Media

Assurance Media is receiving a Merit in the specialty trade contractor building security and monitoring category for the Positive Outcomes Charter School surveillance upgrade. Assurance Media designed and installed a custom IP-based surveillance system for Positive Outcomes incorporating 48 HD cameras of various manufacturers and sizes complete with network hardware and a robust surveillance server.

EDiS Company

In the GC/CM $5-10 million category, EDiS Company is presented a Merit for the Delaware History Museum Renovation and Expansion. The Delaware Historical Society and EDiS partnered to incorporate Delaware History Museum and Old Town Hall for a museum expansion. Changes included updates to the facade, MEP systems and ADA accessibility as well as the construction of a glass building connector.

Nowland Associates 

Nowland Associates is honored with a Merit in the GC/CM category $2-5 million for the Wilmington Friends School Classroom Addition and Library Renovation. Wilmington Friends chose Nowland to manage the construction of its new Global Learning Center. Embodying the school’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the project succeeds as a net-zero facility, and will endure to serve the community for decades.

 

 

County Group Companies

In the specialty trade category for asbestos abatement category, the County Group Companies is honored with a Merit for the TRI-Supply asbestos abatement project. The remediation of the former Kaneka site, now TRI-Supply, was no small task. The site presented a host of safety issues: extreme heights, heat, cold, extremely heavy objects and high winds. Extreme vigilance regarding safety and environmental regulation made this a successful project.

 

 

Richard Y. Johnson & Son

Richard Y. Johnson & Son is awarded a Merit in the GC/CM category $5-10 million for the Lewes Public Library. The project required close coordination with the Town of Lewes, DelDOT and DNREC, all stakeholders in the property development. Coordination of a new pedestrian and vehicular railroad crossing, removal of unsuitable and contaminated soils and the integration of a new trailhead facility all contributed to a challenging project. 

 

 

SC&A Construction

SC&A Construction is honored with a Merit for the AstraZeneca FOC South Wing Upgrades and Renovations in the GC/CM $2-5 million category along with a Green award. This was an opportunity to update a local icon. In addition to modern design, carefully selected materials and careful retrofit of two new AHUs, the project team enhanced mechanical and electrical systems serving over 50,000-square-feet of office space.

 

 

Bancroft Construction

In the GC/CM $2-5 million category, Bancroft construction is presented a Merit for the Incubator Lab fit-out at STAR. The DTP Incubator Lab fit-out involved the construction of 11 R & D incubator labs and administrative areas within a 12,000-square-foot area of core and shell space within the College of Health Sciences building on the University of Delaware’s STAR Campus.

 

 

Wohlsen Construction 

In the GC/CM $5-10 million category, Wohlsen Construction is presented a Merit for the Westminster Village Dover project. Wohlsen completed the selective demolition and renovation of Presbyterian Senior Living’s occupied skilled nursing facility. Designed by RLPS, the changes help Westminster Village provide better care and a more comfortable and attractive environment for its residents.

 

 

BPGS Construction

In the GC/CM category of $10 million and over, BPGS is honored with a Merit for the Market Street Village project in Wilmington. The project is a renovation that converted three historic properties into 76 new one- and two-bedroom apartments. The buildings were previously the WSFS building, Woolworth’s drug store, and a furniture store converted to a garage. The project required partnerships with the city, Delaware State Housing Authority and Historic Downtown Development.

 

 

BPGS Construction  

BPGS is awarded a Merit in the under $2 million category for The Mill. The project was an interior fit-out occupying the 4th floor of the Nemours Building. This 12,000-square-foot co-working space contains a full kitchen/bar area, display cases housing patent models from Hagley Museum and a 28-foot docking station.

 

 

Worth & Company 

In the mechanical under $2 million, Worth & Company is awarded a Merit for the AIG 600 N. King St. Building. Worth was charged with constructing and installing the mechanical piping, plumbing and HVAC work for the project. The team demonstrated superior quality workmanship and utilized every aspect of the company’s resources to successfully meet the customer’s expectations.

 

 

Nickle Electrical Companies

Nickle Electrical Companies is presented a Merit for the Salisbury University Sea Gull Stadium in the electrical under $2 million category. Nickle provided full electrical installation to the 31,000-square-foot stadium, including site lighting, field lighting and power to the scoreboard. An extensive lighting control system was installed to create an energy-efficient facility, which accommodates 5,000 spectators.

 

 

Ralph G. Degli Obizzi & Sons

Ralph G. Degli Obizzi & Sons is honored with a Merit in the mechanical $2-10 million category for the Beebe Hospital School of Nursing. The new three-story nursing center was completed over an 18-month period and although it was preliminarily over budget, the recommendations of Degli Obizzi & Sons ensure the project was completed on time and under budget.

 

 

George & Lynch

George & Lynch is honored in the site/civil $2-5 million category with a Merit for the DelDOT Bridgeville Maintenance Yard Development. The existing yard in Seaford has been outgrown and had flooding issues. The existing facilities were in need of replacement. The new site is more centrally located and allowed for a more efficient site design.

 

 

A & H Metals 

In the specialty trade metal plate wall panels category, A & H Metals is presented a Merit for the AIG 600 N. King St. Building. A & H Metals is very proud to be part of the renovation of AIG’s 11-story North King Street Building. The modern transformation of the building reflects the hard work and efforts from the entire team.
