New York Casinos

New York’s Class III Indian facilities offer slots and table games. There’s also the “racinos,” where you can bet on horse racing and play video slots and electronic table games. Not all New York casinos are open 24 hours. Only five Class III casinos—all in upstate New York—can keep gaming floors active round the clock.

The closest you’ll get to gambling in New York City is Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway, which offers 5,300 slot machines, electronic roulette and craps, and year-round harness racing
(a rarity).

About 90 minutes from Empire City, Monticello Casino and Raceway offers table games, video poker and electronic table games, plus year-round harness racing. Resorts World Casino New York in Jamaica, N.Y., has slots and electronic table games, but no horse racing.

Also worth noting … New York’s nine racinos are pushing the state for full-fledged casino status. Gov. Andrew Cuomo is open to the idea, though nothing new has been proposed. Expect to see something by 2013.
