Oktoberfest Fun Starts With 'Barks and Brews'

Head to the Brandywine River Museum of Art this Saturday, Oct. 6, for an outdoor celebration.

If lederhosen and beer steins pique your interest, then this event is for you. Head to the Brandywine River Museum of Art this Saturday, Oct. 6, for an outdoor Oktoberfest celebration in the museum’s courtyard, happening from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Family, friends and canine companions are all welcome to attend the free event; however, museum admission will be an additional cost.

Food and drink will be available for purchase, including a selection of craft beers from Two Stones Pub, wine and soft drinks, and a delectable menu of German-inspired fare by Mike Kline, the executive chef of Brandywine’s Millstone Café. When your belly is full of beer and food, tap your feet to a rich mix of acoustic folk-rock blues by local band Moondawgs, who will be playing throughout the event.

And speaking of dogs, be sure to bring your favorite furry friend along for the fun—Oktoberfest dog costumes are encouraged, of course. Brandywine volunteers will be on-hand to dog-sit well-behaved pets for owners who wish to visit the museum’s galleries, including the new “Natural Wonders: The Sublime in Contemporary Art” exhibition.

Menu:

  • Soft pretzels with root beer mustard
  • Lager-braised bratwurst with housemade sauerkraut
  • Cheddar-potato-stout soup
  • Fried apples and potatoes with horseradish-mustard dressing
  • Chicken schnitzel with dill sauce
  • Baked kielbasa with kohlrabi, apple and potato
  • Braised red cabbage
  • Fried brussels sprouts with pickled red onions
  • Chocolate-stout brownies
  • Apple strudel
