At Great Stuff Savvy Resale and Great Stuff Home, customers will find super deals on clothing, jewelry, handbags, shoes and furniture with the net proceeds going to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. Volunteers shopping for an opportunity to serve others also will find just the right fit, says Susan Murphree of Wilmington, a breast-cancer survivor who has been giving her time and enthusiasm at the Savvy Resale shop in Talleyville for three years. “I was looking for an opportunity to volunteer one day a week that was flexible,” she says. “It felt comfortable at the shop. It’s a very welcoming place.” Murphree has formed a bond with other volunteers, as well as regular customers who come to the shop in search of bargains on items like designer-label apparel that are donated to the store. She often finds pieces for her own wardrobe. And she has learned a new skill, dressing the storefront window. “It’s very rewarding helping women to put together their outfits,” she says. “I enjoy finding a great scarf or a wonderful pin, that extra touch that makes an outfit special.” Murphree also volunteers to work Sip-and-Shop events when groups of 15 or more can reserve the store for an evening of shopping, refreshments and socializing. “Great Stuff is not only a super place to shop,” she says. “It’s a super place to volunteer.”
