Summer 2013 Delaware Dining Guide: Where to Find Great Deals in Delaware’s Mainstays

The state’s iconic restaurants are always offering dining deals. Find out when and where.

Abbott’s Grill, Milford 
The Deal: Half-price wine on select bottles on Wednesdays.

Bon Appetit Restaurant, Seaford

Corner Bistro, Talleyville
The Deal: Four-course meal between $35 and $45 for Chef’s Table (third Thursday of every month)
Bonus: Lunch! The Bistro Express for $14 gets you a half-sandwich, soup, small salad and bite-sized dessert. 

Deep Blue Bar & Grill, Wilmington
The Deal: Lobster dinner for $29.95 on Saturdays through Labor Day

Domaine Hudson, Wilmington
The Deal: Nightly three-course prix fixe  for $39
What You Get: There are typically three options per category. Among the recent selections: steamed Prince Edward Island mussels, barbecue-braised pork cheeks with aged cheddar polenta and braised mustard greens, and chocolate pot de crème with whipped cream. 
Bonus: Domaine Hudson also has some 40 wines by the glass in 1.5-ounce, 3-ounce and 5-ounce pours. The 1.5-ounce pours start at $2.

Eclipse Bistro, Wilmington
The Deal: Diners can get a bottle of wine on Tuesdays for half price. 
What You Get: Pair the vino with a porkette sandwich—a country roll packed with sautéed spinach and sharp provolone laced with roasted garlic aioli ($13).

Espuma, Rehoboth Beach 
The Deal: Paella night highlights types of paella—including the traditional—for $20 (available this fall).
What You Get: Four homemade pastas for $20 or less (Thursdays, all year) Half-priced appetizers from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the bar (every night, all year)

Green Room, Wilmington
Frugal foodies will benefit from the Hotel du Pont’s 100th anniversary celebration that continues.
The Deal: A centennial lunch menu for July and August for $19.13
What You Get: The August two-course menu includes a choice of summer tomato soup with basil or mixed greens with strawberry-black pepper purée, shaved Manchego cheese and shaved radish. Entrées: Grilled chicken breast with Parmesan pommes purée and mushroom velouté sauce or sautéed salmon filet with baby vegetables, black rice and ginger cream. Dessert: The hotel’s famous macaroons, of course.

The Deal: “BoVine” night on Thursdays (off-season) for $25
What You Get: Filet mignon and glass of wine

Twelves Grill & Café, West Grove

Bonus: There are other ways to save cash at the Chester County BYOB. Bring in a bottle of wine from a local winery and the restaurant will waive the corkage fee ($5 per bottle).

Soffritto Italian Grill, Newark 
Whole fish, filleted tableside, is a treat at Soffritto—which has received the Ospitalità Italiana seal by the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce. The recognition marks Soffritto as an authentic Italian restaurant outside of Italy. 
The Deal: Whole fish of the day is $22 on Wednesdays. (Usually $30)

Sullivan’s Steakhouse, Wilmington
Sullivan’s is debunking the idea that the restaurant is only for special occasions. It offers several deals to whet diners’ appetites.  
The Deal: “The Sure Thing,” a three-course daily deal for $39
What You Get: A mix of seasonal specials and favorites. Time it right and you might spot the current best-seller among the deals: two three-ounce filet medallions alongside shrimp and mashed potatoes.

The Back Burner, Hockessin
The Deals: A three-course prix fixe for $29 (Wednesdays only) 12-ounce prime rib for $22 (Thursdays) Whole lobster for $24.95 (Fridays) 
Bonus: $1 oysters at the bar (Wednesdays)

The Back Porch Café, Rehoboth Beach
The Deal: A three-course prix fixe menu for $38 throughout the season on Thursdays. (Closed off-season)

The Buttery Restaurant, Lewes
The Deal: A three-course meal every night for $30
What You Get: Soup and salad, entrée selections to please meat-lovers, non-meat eaters and vegetarians. Dessert is included.

Union City Grille, Wilmington
The Deal: Two courses for $20 on Tuesdays 
What You Get: The selections rotate to reflect the seasons­—no substitutions, but plenty of choices. 
The Possibilities: Coffee-rubbed flatiron steak with jalapeño cornbread; crab fra diavolo with pasta, aged goat cheese and corn; blackened Gulf shrimp with creamy grits and braised kale; and grilled chicken scallopini. Yum! 

Victoria’s Restaurant, Rehoboth Beach
The Deal: Three courses for $29.95 all year long. Prix fixe, 5 p.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Saturday; all night Sunday. 
What You Get: Soup or salad and a choice of six entrées—including crispy-skinned duck breast, broiled Scottish salmon and slow-cooked short ribs—followed by dessert.

Walter’s Steakhouse, Wilmington 
The Deal: This summer, hump day is “Thrill of the Grill” day. (The restaurant usually offers some kind of fixed-price special all year long.) 
What You Get: Three courses for $34.95 (includes grilled melon wrapped in prosciutto; a choice of a grilled Delmonico steak or marinated swordfish; and dessert).
Bonus: Complimentary seafood bar on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays
