A private, college preparatory Christian K-12 school, educating in the Classical tradition (talloaksde.org)
Tall Oaks was founded by a group of parents who were inspired by the ideas of writer Douglas Wilson, who described the success of a Midwest classical school.
Today, the school offers a Christ-centered classical education that aims to assist parents in preparing their children to excel in every calling of God, and educate with a Biblical world view.
According to the school’s Web site, a classical education involves three levels of thinking (the Trivium): Grammar, Dialectic, and Rhetoric, which are emphasized in elementary, middle and high school, respectively.
Students in the rhetoric phase learn to research subjects, form their own conclusions, and effectively communicate their understanding to others.
Tall Oaks students tend to demonstrate superior academic achievement, but they enter with a normal distribution of abilities, according to the Web site. Entrance testing is for class placement, not selective admission. The school does not have special education services, but accommodations for special needs may be made.
Did you know: Tall Oak’s Web site includes a well-populated list of scholarly and plain-language books about classical education.
