Team Spirit

Jason Curry, of Curry Custom Framing (“the baddest framers in town”), makes the first cut of lumber for the first wall.

Jason tapes the Zip Wall system by Huber Wood. Typical construction uses OSB (oriented strand board) as sheathing with a separate house wrap, such as Tyvek. Zip system roof and wall sheathings are structural panels with built-in moisture barriers. The panels are taped to create a moisture and air barrier upon installation.

The first wall is raised. Note that the band board, which is typically not insulated, has 1” foam insulation around the perimeter. As part of the framing process, we designed the first floor decking to accommodate this extra insulation. The band board at the base of the home structure is typically un-insulated and creates a “cold spot” where heat loss is affected.
