Scrapple, a breakfast meat often shrouded in mystery, is revered in the state of Delaware—so much so that festivals are dedicated to it. If you’ve never quite understood the fascination with scrapple, here’s your chance. Head to the Delaware Small Business Chamber’s FunFest and Championship Scrapple Recipe Cook-Off, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Glasgow Park.
The cook-off features professional and amateur cooks as well as kid chefs aged 15 and under. Each division winner, who will win $250 each, will also compete for an additional $250 cash prize for creating a recipe featuring Kirby & Holloway scrapple. Previous recipes and winning dishes have included scrapple pasta carbonara, scrapple baklava, scrapple pizza, scrapple jerky, scrapple egg and cheese wraps, scrapple sliders and scrapple pierogies.
The FunFest runs from noon–4 p.m. and will feature a variety of food trucks, food vendors and small business vendors. There will be a kids’ play area, K9 demonstrations and music.
