Kate Ransom
Wilmington
President and CEO, The Music School of Delaware; Violinist, Serafin String Quartet
There is nothing in the state like The Music School of Delaware, which provides instruction and about 100 performances a year, so it’s not, according to Ransom, too soon to prepare for its 100th anniversary in 2025. “We are actively in the process of fulfilling our statewide model (since opening a branch in Milford a few years ago), implementing a new and well-considered approach to communications and advancement, and we are reaching out to our friends and supporters with a very personal touch,” says Ransom, its leader since 1999. She guided the school to its first national accreditation a few years ago, then again, last year, for the next 10. In 2010, it won the Governor’s Award for the Arts. Her Serafin String Quartet released a CD of early chamber works by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon, and it is ramping up activity as the quartet-in-residence at UD.
