Grimes’ work merges two aims: giving financial grants and guidance to nonprofit organizations in the Washington, D.C., area and Sussex County, and presenting performances at The Freeman Stage at Bayside while providing arts education—all with the ultimate goal of building a sustainable arts community in Southern Delaware. One measure of her success: Grimes has overseen the growth of Freeman Stage to 40,000 attendees a year since it was launched in 2007. The key: “To love what you’re doing and to know that you are making an impact one day at a time.”
