Sarah J. Carmody
Wilmington
Executive Director, Delaware Nurses Association
After Carmody’s predecessor announced her retirement, DNA looked outside the nursing community for a leader for the first time. Carmody was a stay-at-home mom when she landed the job. Since then, “It has been my honor to lead an association dedicated to serving the nursing profession,” she says. Among other duties, Carmody oversees daily operations, prepares the association for accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and advocates for the nursing profession through legislative and regulatory channels. Next up: “To continue to move forward with the Institute of Medicine Report goals of removing practice barriers for all nurses and educating the public and other disciplines about the education, experience and the unique perspective nurses have in helping to transform the healthcare system.”
