Sher Valenzuela
Milford
Vice President, First State Manufacturing Inc.
You know her as a candidate for lieutenant governor in 2012, but Valenzuela’s main occupation is the family business. First State Manufacturing began as one guy (Valenzuela’s husband) and a sewing machine in the garage. Sixteen years later, the industrial sewing company provides products for clients like Lockheed Martin and Amazon. In the beginning, Valenzuela did whatever was needed to ensure the company would succeed. Today she works as a catalyst for new opportunities. “The best part of success is having more freedom to help others succeed,” Valenzuela says. “We’ve formed a partnership with Delaware State University and the City of Milford to create the ACCESS Manufacturing Small Business Accelerator, which will provide resources and skills training for our state’s manufacturers.”
